I am 67 years old and this was my retirement trip. I wanted to see Peru properly but could not do the Inca Trail. This 14-day tour was perfect — everything I wanted, nothing I could not handle physically. The condors at Colca Canyon, the Amantani family dinner, the train through the gorge to Machu Picchu. I have never been more grateful for a travel decision.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this the most comprehensive non-trekking Peru tour available?
Yes. The 14-day Lima–Arequipa–Puno–Cusco–Machu Picchu tour is our most complete non-trekking package, covering all of Peru's major southern highlights: Lima's colonial coast, Arequipa's white city and colonial architecture, the Colca Canyon and Andean condors, Lake Titicaca with the Uros floating islands and Amantani Island overnight, the Puno-to-Cusco heritage route, Cusco and the Sacred Valley, and finally Machu Picchu. No trekking is required at any point.
How does the acclimatization work across 14 days?
The itinerary provides excellent natural acclimatization. Lima is at sea level. Arequipa (2,335 m) introduces moderate altitude over 3 nights. Chivay in the Colca Valley (3,633 m) and Puno at Lake Titicaca (3,812 m) gradually take you higher. The overland bus from Puno to Cusco maintains similar altitude before you settle in Cusco (3,400 m) for 3 nights. Aguas Calientes for Machu Picchu day is at 2,040 m — a welcome descent. This progression is far superior to flying directly into Cusco.
What is the Amantani Island family stay like on this tour?
The Amantani overnight is one of the most authentic cultural experiences in Peru. A local family hosts you in their simple home, serves traditional meals (quinoa soups, potatoes, herbal teas grown on the island), and many families involve guests in an evening cultural celebration with music and traditional dress. It is a genuine human connection that no hotel can replicate. All the proceeds go directly to the host family and island community.
Is there any physical activity required on this tour?
No strenuous physical activity is required. The most demanding element is walking at altitude — Machu Picchu involves stone steps and uneven paths, and some city tours cover a few kilometres on foot. The Colca Canyon visit involves standing and viewing rather than canyon hiking. Lake Titicaca is accessed by motorboat with no hiking. Comfortable walking shoes are all you need. The tour is suitable for most ages and fitness levels.
Why does the tour include a bus rather than a flight between Puno and Cusco?
The Puno-to-Cusco bus route is operated as a guided tour, not just transport. The route passes the Pukara archaeological site, a buffet lunch in Sicuani, the exceptional Wiracocha temple complex at Raqchi, and the 17th-century Andahuaylillas church — often called the "Sistine Chapel of South America." These are genuine, significant sites that most Peru tours skip entirely. Flying this segment saves 7 hours but loses all of this cultural content.
How many domestic flights are included?
Two domestic flights are included: Lima to Arequipa (Day 2) and Cusco to Lima (Day 14). The Arequipa to Puno leg is by superior tourist bus (covered as part of the Colca Canyon excursion). The Puno to Cusco leg is the guided tourist bus described above. All these routes are handled on your behalf with your tickets provided before departure.
Can I add the Inca Trail to this 14-day itinerary?
The Inca Trail requires a separate 4-day trek, additional camping nights, permits, and porters. Adding it would extend the tour to approximately 17–18 days. Our 16-day Lima–Arequipa–Puno–Cusco–Inca Trail package covers a very similar route with the trek included. If you are interested in converting this to a trekking tour, contact us with your travel dates for availability and permit status.
What hotel categories are available on this tour?
We offer standard (3-star), comfort (4-star), and premium (boutique 5-star) hotel tiers. City nights (Lima, Arequipa, Cusco) can be individually upgraded. The Chivay/Colca Valley night is in a good mid-range hotel. The Amantani Island night is always with a local family — no hotel is available on the island. The Aguas Calientes night uses a comfortable hotel in the town centre. Mix-and-match upgrades are available — ask us.
What Our Travellers Say
The genius of this tour is the pacing. Each city and landscape feels properly explored rather than rushed through. Three nights in Arequipa is exactly right — the monastery alone needs a full day. The Puno–Cusco bus with the stops at Raqchi and Andahuaylillas was a complete surprise — two sites I knew nothing about that turned out to be extraordinary.
Came with my daughter for a special mother-daughter trip. The family night on Amantani was what she talks about most — the host mother dressed us in traditional clothing and we danced with the community until late. Then Machu Picchu, visited in perfect morning light. This tour creates the kind of memories that bind families together.
Exceptionally well organised with a seamless sequence of experiences. The natural acclimatization through Arequipa and Titicaca before Cusco is genuinely effective — I had no altitude issues in Cusco or at Machu Picchu, which was not the case on a previous Peru trip where I flew directly to Cusco. Great guides throughout. The Taquile weavers were magnificent.
First time in South America and I could not have chosen better. The diversity across 14 days is astonishing — Pacific coast, volcanic city, the deepest canyon on earth, the highest navigable lake, Inca ruins, cloud forest, and Machu Picchu. Every transfer ran on time. Every guide was excellent. Every hotel was well-chosen. A flawlessly executed tour of extraordinary places.
The 14-day non-trekking Peru tour is the best holiday I have ever taken, and I have taken many. The Colca Canyon condors at dawn, the Amantani family stay under the stars (absolutely no light pollution at 3,812 metres), and Machu Picchu in the early morning mist are three experiences that rarely appear in a single tour. Magnificently conceived and executed.
